Express and Star"The Crosswells Inn is well known for it's delicious carvery which has made it a popular choice for diners."

Last Sunday, the roasts on offer were gammon, turkey and beef - the slight pinkness of the latter made deciding which to go for an easy task for me. In return for my choice, I was rewarded with an entire plateful of prime, thickly-sliced beef which left only a small room at the edges for vegetables. However, that's not such a big problem because you can return to the dozen-or-so dishes of vegetable at the serving bar as many times as you like.

My dining partner, Louise, meanwhile, went for turkey which she ate alongside a massive quantity of freshly cooked roast potatoes. The vegetable selection was constantly being refreshed - the new potatoes, roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots, roast parsnips and cauliflower were also clearly fresh, not frozen, and perfectly cooked. Both of us were really pleased with our food, which at £6.50 per person was a brilliant deal.

The meals were cheaper and tastier than the offerings at some chain carvery places we've visited. Louise was particularly impressed that The Crosswells Inn is even better value at lunchtimes on every day except Sunday, with adult meals priced at £3.99.

Dessert was unneccessary, but I'm a sucker for new things and couldn't resist trying the Polish apple pie, chalked up as a special on the wall, and made to a staff member's family recipe. The £3 that it cost to discover that the Poles like their apples grated and mixed in with a suety-pasty before being baked was money well spent in my book.
Louise was seduced into ordering a dessert by the combination of the words "Forida orange pudding" and "in chocolate sauce" and was also not disappointed by her choice.
With a couple of drinks thrown in our bill came in at just under £24 which was a very good deal indeed.
